You’ll remember an earlier post here at Dembroriffic about the End of an Era – the Polaroid Era. At that time the only viable solution (that I knew about) to continue our instant film fix was to digitally convert our images via Poladroid.
Photojojo (which you should subscribe to if you are a photogeek) sent out an email last week that pins the last day of Polaroid production as December 31st, 2008. Just nine short days until all of our Polaroid dreams are lost. Well, not completely lost, as Photojojo duley points out, you have a ton of options to keep you going. You could buy up as much stock as possible, (I’ve already sold my leftover Polaroid Instant Stock at a very nice price on craigslist – don’t kill me, my camera was broken!) which will be admittedly expensive, or you can check out “The New Instant Camera.”

Fuji Instax Camera
To fill the gap left by Polaroid, Fuji’s instant camera, the Instax, has become available in the United States. Check out this Flickr pool to see the kind of images it puts out (Notably: Widescreen er… Panoramic format, and striking image quality). It’s no Polaroid which, as we all know, has it’s own distinct look and feel, but it’s close. If nothing else – through the Instax (and Fuji’s Polaroid compatible films), lomographers everywhere will be able to continue their instant film addictions a little while longer. Hopefully Fuji will run with the torch for years to come or we’ll all have to stick to Poladroid or those crazy micro printing cameras, which I’m sorry, while honorable attempts, just aren’t the same.
